>> Meet Our Board of Directors
The Olympium Synchronized Swim Club Board of Directors are elected club members who work tirelessly to tell the OSSC story and to make the organization stronger. Their dedication and passion come from the heart and serve a greater purpose that help make OSSC a leader in the sport of synchronized swimming.
The OSSC Board of Directors is accountable to members for sound financial decision-making and a personal commitment to club involvement. In addition to attending regular monthly board meetings, each board member participates in several committees and/or subsidiary working groups.
To help you get better acquainted with your Board of Directors, we've prepared a brief summary of each executive's involvement with the club together with their areas of responsibility for the 2007 2008 season.
Cynthia Caskey, President
Cynthia joined the ranks of OSSC in 2001 after her daughter Candace was inspired to try the sport following the Gold -medal performance of the Canadians at the 2001 World Championships. It was shortly thereafter that Cynthia realized she was destined to become a long-standing member of the club when her second daughter Claire decided to jump in. Now with 2 daughters in sync and serving a fourth term on the Board, Cynthia is certainly a friendly and familiar face at OSSC.
As President, Cynthia presides at all meetings of the Board and is responsible for the general supervision of both the affairs and operations of the Club. She is also a member of the HR Committee and the Finance Committee.
This is Cynthia's second term as Club President.
Blake Mintz, - Treasurer
The Mintz family has been involved with OSSC for a number of years - both in and out of the Boardroom - working with the same enthusiasm and dedication shown by their daughters, Victoria and Natalie, for the sport of synchronized swimming.
As Treasurer, Blake's responsibilities for 2007-08 include keeping full and accurate financial records for the club, preparing financial statements and reporting to both the Board and the Members, all matters pertaining to the Club's financial position.
Blake is also a member of the HR Committee and Finance Committee; this is his first appointment to the Board.
Debra Foster, Director Administration
Debra was nominated by the OSSC Board in early 2007 to fill a vacancy in the Administration portfolio for the balance of 2006/07. The Foster family has been with the club since 2000 and has one daughter swimming with OSSC in the Tier 6 high Performers Program.
As the Director of Administration, Debra's responsibilities include the supervision and organization of club travel, club uniforms, club equipment, club trophies and member volunteer points.
This is Debra's second appointment to the Board.
Heather Tobias, Director - Communications
Heather was nominated by the OSSC Board in the fall of 2006 to fill a vacancy in the Secretary position for the balance of 2006/07. Heather's eldest daughter Chloe currently swims on the Tier 6 Gold team.
Heather's responsibilities as Director of Communications include club promotions and publicity, the club news letter, the club web-site, club events & team photographers, club & team phone parents and the office of club historian.
This is Heather's first term as Director of Communications.
Elizabeth (Libby) Walker, Director Fundraising
The Walker family joined OSSC in 2005 with their daughter Rebecca after five successful years of competitive swimming with the Guelph Synchro Swim Club.
As the Director of Fundraising, Libby's responsibilities include the supervision and organization of events including Burning Bright for Breast Cancer, the Annual Club Gala, Tag Days, Club Fundraising Tournament, Euchre Night and Lowblaws/A&P Gift Card Administration.
This is Libby's second appointment to the Board.
Marilee Kruspe, Director Human Resources
Marilee and her daughter Tess were welcomed additions to OSSC in 2004 after making the decision to leave their club in Oakville where they were first introduced to synchronized swimming. The passion that both Marilee and Tess have developed for the sport is truly evident in their dedication and commitment to club participation.
As Director of Human Resources, Marilee serves to maintain high quality relations between all facets of the club and functions as arbitrator when issues periodically arise generally between coaches, athletes and their parents by fostering open and frank discussions directly between the two parties.
Marilee is also a member of the HR Committee; she is serving her third term as a Board Director.
Denise Carpenter, Director Kids In Sync and Special Events
Denise enlisted with OSSC in 2002 when her daughter Kathaleen joined our Introductory Program. She has been a member of the Board since 2003.
As the Directors of Special Events, Denise's responsibilities include administration of the Kids In Sync program, the Annual Halloween Party, the Annual Winter Show, Club Photo Day, and the Year-End Banquet.
This is Denise's second appointment to the Special Events portfolio; she is serving her fifth term as a Board Director.
Dawn Field - Secretary
Dawn and daughter Jordan first became involved with OSSC during the 2006-07 season following a number of years of involvement with the Burlington Synchro Swim Club, where Dawn served as a Board member for 4 years.
In her role as Secretary, Dawn is responsible for recording the minutes of all Board and General Membership meetings, remaining fully conversant on all club matters and providing comprehensive support to all club Directors.
This is Dawns's first appointment to the OSSC Board.
At OSSC, we value the input of our members. If you have questions or comments for your board of directors, please be sure to speak with them.
