Canada fields strong team with help from OSSC

A
young, strong Canadian team will compete in the 10th FINA
Junior Synchro swimming World Championships early next month
with a little help from OSSC.
Courtney Brown, Jennifer Knobbs and Erin Wilson are 3 athletes
that hail from the Olympium Synchro Swim Club who will join
seven other National Junior Team members in Guangzhou China
October 7 – 11, looking for solid performances that
will counter the trend of high caliber medal-winning routines
from countries such as Russia, Japan and Spain, which have
dominated the event in recent years.
The
team, which was named following National Team Trials in May,
has been training together at the Etobicoke Olympium since
July under the direction of OSSC coaches Julia Warren and
Elena Podolsky. Julia and Elena, who coached the tier 7 section
at OSSC during the 2005-06 season, were appointed National
Junior Team Head and Assistant Coaches earlier in the year
by Synchro Canada, the national governing body responsible
for the development of Synchro swimming in this country.
The
10-woman delegation will leave Canada on September 25th and
travel to Hong Kong for 8 more days of training before descending
on the “Shi Jilian” Sports Center Swimming Pool
in Foshan City Guangdong for the competition, which gets underway
each day at 10:00am; team finals are scheduled for Wednesday
October 11 at 5:30pm.
Following the competition, the team will travel to Macau China
to participate in a synchro demonstration before returning
home.
OSSC
is exceptionally proud to have 3 athletes and 2 coaches appointed
to the Junior National Team in 2006. Good Luck Courtney, Jennifer,
Erin, Julia, Elena and the entire Junior National Team!
