>> Outstanding Results for OSSC at Divisionals
Olympium Synchro Swim Club athletes wrapped up the 2007 Eastern/Atlantic Divisional Challenge sending many swimmers to the podium to receive trophies, medals and ribbons. The 5 day event was hosted by OSSC and boasted synchronized swimmers from Ontario , Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces . In all, over 325 athletes gathered at the Etobicoke Olympium Sports Complex to vie for titles in Tier 6 & 7 Figures, Solo, Duet and Team competitions but by Sunday afternoon, OSSC athletes had struck gold to finish the weekend.
OSSC wowed the crowd with their golden performance in the 15 & under team event (Tier 6). It was a momentous occasion as OSSC's Gold Team, led by Coach Kelly Hogan, won the prestigious team event. This marked the first time in the past decade to see an Ontario team at the top of the podium for this event at Divisionals. Another record was set as OSSC placed 3 teams in the event final - demonstrating the depth of future talent at the club - with OSSC teams also placing 6th and 11th. In the Tier 7 Junior team event, OSSC brought home the bronze medal and placed fourth in the Tier 7 Combo event.
OSSC soloists placed second bringing home double silver - Jennifer Knobbs placed 2nd in the Tier 7 Junior Solo event and Rachel Kowalski placed 2nd in the Tier 6 15 & under solo event.
In the Tier 6 15 & under Duet event, OSSC athletes Rachel Kowalski and Rebecca Maule proudly brought home bronze.
OSSC also had many swimmers place in the top ten spots at the figure competition. Lara Tutton finished second in the Tier 6 15 & under figure competition she was followed by her teammates Rachel Kowalski placing 3rd, Sarah Graham 7th and Rebecca Maule 10th. Jennifer Knobbs led the way for OSSC in the Tier 7 figure competition with her 5th place finish and Samantha Mawhinney followed her teammate with her 7th place finish.
Coming off this inspiring event and still celebrating an almost complete sweep of gold medals (9 of the 10 events entered) at Ontario's Provincial Championships, OSSC will carry the momentum as these talented athletes continue to train and prepare for the 2007 Canadian Open Championships (Tier 7) May 3 - 6 in Victoria, BC and the 2007 Canadian Espoir Championships (Tier 6) May 23 - 27 in Saint John, NB.
